Volleyball
Notre Dame remained perfect in Big East play, completing a third consecutive road sweep with an easy 25-14, 25-21, 25-12 victory at DePaul Oct. 24. Senior outside hitter Serinity Phillips led the way with eight kills, six digs and three blocks, while freshman middle blocker added seven kills on just eight swings. Phillips was named the Big East player of the week for her efforts.
The Irish (14-4, 8-0) return home to face Seton Hall Saturday and Rutgers Sunday, the first varsity events ever held at the newly renovated Purcell Pavilion.
Women’s Soccer
Junior forwards Taylor Knaack and Lauren Fowlkes each found the back of the net as the No. 6 Fighting Irish wrapped up their regular season with a 2-0 victory over No. 22 Georgetown on Oct. 25, capping off the program’s seventh straight Big East division title.

Junior Nikki Weiss and senior Kelsey Lysander split the shutout, each patrolling the net for one half of action, as Notre Dame (14-3-1, 10-0-1) ran its unbeaten streak to 12 matches.
On Oct. 23, the Irish got picturesque scores from sophomore forward Melissa Henderson and junior forward Erica Iantorno in the second half of a 2-0 win against Villanova. Henderson, who had missed two games with an injury, notched her team-leading eighth goal of the year, while Iantorno headed home her third in as many matches.
Notre Dame hosts a Big East quarterfinal matchup Sunday. The semifinals and finals will be held Nov. 6-8 in Storrs, Conn.
Men’s Soccer
Sophomore forward Michael Rose provided the only offense with an early second-half goal, leading the Irish men to a 1-0 road win against Pittsburgh Oct. 24. The game had been moved to an artificial turf field at North Allegheny (Pa.) High School due to inclement weather.
The tally was the first of Rose’s career. Senior goalie Philip Tuttle made one save to preserve the shutout.
Notre Dame (9-6-1, 7-3-0 Big East) also earned an overtime win at Georgetown on Oct. 21, with junior defender Bilal Duckett’s first career goal deciding the outcome exactly seven minutes into the first extra period.
Junior Michael Thomas had given the Irish a 1-0 lead with his fifth goal of the year.
The Irish play at Michigan State Wednesday before returning home to finish the regular season against Connecticut Saturday. Big East Tournament play is slated to begin Nov. 4.
Hockey
The home-ice struggles continued for No. 8 Notre Dame, which dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker to 15th-ranked Boston College Oct. 23.
Junior center Ben Ryan had scored just 11 seconds into the third period to tie the game at 2-2, but the Eagles got the eventual game-winner on a Joe Whitney goal with 8:31 remaining. The Irish (3-3) had a pair of power-play opportunities in the final five minutes but could not net another equalizer.
Junior wing Calle Ridderwall scored in the first period for the Irish, which outshot Boston College by a 22-16 margin.
Notre Dame hosts Ohio State this weekend at the Joyce Center.
Men’s Swimming
Notre Dame finished first in 11 events en route to a 179-119 victory over Oakland in its first dual meet of the season Oct. 23.
Senior John Lytle won the 50- and 100-meter freestyle and led the way in a pair of relay victories (200 medley and 400 freestyle). Freshman Bill Bass finished first in the 500 freestyle and the 200 individual medley, and the Irish also got individual wins from senior Andrew Hoffman (200 free), sophomore Petar Petrovic (100 backstroke), freshman Christopher Johnson (100 breaststroke), Junior Eric Lex (3-meter diving) and senior Caleb Dunnichay (1-meter diving).
The Irish host Cleveland State and Miami (Ohio) on Saturday in a meet that marks the 25th anniversary of varsity competition in the Rolfs Aquatic Center.
Women’s Tennis
Irish sophomore Kristy Frilling reached the finals at the Midwest Regional Championships before falling to top seed Maria Mosolova in straight sets Oct. 27 in Evanston, Ill.
Frilling, ranked No. 20 nationally, had defeated Ohio State’s Kirsten Flower, 6-3, 6-0, in the quarterfinals and DePaul’s Anna Redesci, 7-5, 6-3, in the semis. She and Irish senior Kali Krisik reached the doubles final before dropping an 8-6 decision to Redesci and Selma Salkovic of DePaul.
Women’s Golf
The Irish women finished off their fall season with a second-place finish in the Alamo Invitational Oct. 27 in San Antonio. The event was shortened to a single round because of heavy rains on the first day of play.
Senior Annie Brophy shot a two-under-par 70 to tie for medalist honors, marking the second individual win of her career. Sophomore Becca Huffer joined juniors Katie Conway and So-Hyun Park in a tie for 13th after all three carded 74s. Notre Dame’s team score of 292 was just three shots behind Tennessee.
